Legal Permanent Residency (Green Card)
A lawful permanent resident is a foreign national who has been granted the privilege of permanently living and working in the United States. A "green card" is the unofficial name given to an identification card that is issued to all lawful permanent residents (and traditionally this card has been issued in green). There are many different paths toward lawful permanent residency, including (but by no means limited to) family petitions and asylum.
